Fold the leaf in the middle.leaf image by Adrian Hillman from Fotolia.com
Fold the leaf in the middle. Remove the midrib. Make sure that the two parts of the leaf are equal in width. - 2). Slit the leaf to create equal width strips. Make the splits as evenly as possible down to the base. You can use your fingernails, but a blunt knife works better.
- 3). Check to be sure that the leaf's stem points downwards with the glossy part on top. Start the weave by bending the first strip to the left and backwards, putting it under the next strip. Then fold the leaf over the next and under the following, repeating the process.
- 4). Turn the leaf to the left. One strip should point to the left while the other strip points upward. Fold the single leaf on the left to the right, using the same weaving process in Step 3. Repeat Steps 1 through 4, weaving a diamond shape.
- 5). Finish the weave by tying the strips to each other twice. The flax flower may also be finished by cutting the ends of the strips or inserting the ends inside the weave.
