If you already have a personal page and maybe even a business page you might have come across 'Events' in the side navigation bar.
Let's have a look at what and how you can use this feature for.
Events Events, as the name says, is a way to let your friends on Facebook know what you are planning.
It can either be a personal event like a party, that you want to share with everyone or a specific group of friends, or a more general invitation for a workshop, for example for a training business.
The purpose of using this feature on Facebook is that you can reach a number of people in one go, even people that might follow your business page but you don't know them personally.
Events are a great promotional way to publicize something to a wider audience.
How to create an event? You can find an 'Events' link in the navigation in the left column.
When you click there you will see all the events that your friends have already created.
On the top right you'll see the 'Create an Event' link.
The form that will appear will take you through all the details that you can add: Date and time, what you are planning (the type of event), place of event and more info.
This last field is an open box in which you can copy and paste all the necessary information about the event.
You can also add an event photo so people have a visual image of what your event is about.
Selecting guests or not? If you click 'Create Event' without selecting guests this event will just be posted on your wall and your friends will see it.
If you want to target specific people that might be interested you can click on 'Select Guests' and choose from all your friends.
Remember not to overuse this function because if your friends receive too many personal invitations or such that don't meet their interests they might feel overwhelmed and your marketing strategy can lead to friends disconnecting.
Special options There are two options to choose from, which are normally already pre-selected with ticks in a box: Anyone can view and RSVP (public event): This means that everyone will be able to view your event.
If you plan a private party with selected guests make sure you un-tick this box.
Show the guest list on the event page: This means that everyone can see who else is coming.
If you offer an event with sensitive material or want to ensure the privacy of your guests, make sure to un-tick this box.
