- According to Murrieta's Building Division, a pool is any structure built for swimming or rectionational bathing that contains water over 18 inches deep. This includes in-ground as well as above ground pools, hot tubs, spas and wading pools.
- All pools must include a barrier that is in line with Murrieta city guidlelines. The fence must be at least 5-feet, or 60-inches, from the lowest point of ground around the pool area.
- Openings in the fence must not allow more than 1 ¾-inch of passage way. Gates must be self-closing and self-latching. The latching device should be located more than 54-inches from the bottom of the gate, be located on the pool side of the fence and the gate must swing away from the pool.
- Any decorative work, protrusions, indentations or cut-outs in the fence must not be on the side of the fence facing outwards, as this could make the fence easy to climb.
- To increase pool security and safety, you may want to consider using a pool safety cover or an alarm system on your pool fence.
