We need to keep our children safe as they use the roads.
Indeed, it is way too often that we hear about traffic accidents in which they have claimed their lives, or they were seriously injured.
Most often than not, when we think about our offspring and safety, on the roads, teenagers are not usually the group of people who comes to mind first, no, most often than not pre-schoolers and preteens are the ones that comes to mind first.
Yes, it is true that we need to give the later groups some extra attention in this area but, we also need to give teenagers great attention as well.
With the hope of keeping all of our children safe on the roads, these suggestions are put forth.
No Playing We should not encourage them to play while walking or riding on the streets.
Teenagers can sometimes be seen throwing a ball to a friend whom is on the opposite side of the street.
Additionally, in an effort to get away from being tagged by a friend, our little ones, without even thinking about it, would run into the moving traffic.
Also, engaging their friends or vice versa in a bicycle race is a temptation that they may not refuse.
Therefore, swaying them away from playing, where there are moving vehicles, is greatly encouraged.
Always Stop At Edge Children, many a time, enjoys running ahead of their parents/caretaker while using the roads and while it is enjoyable for them, it can be heart pounding for both parents and drivers.
Heart pounding because of the fear that they may run into the moving traffic.
Therefore, it is best to teach them to keep away, while at the same time, to stop at the edge of the roads.
If they are ahead of us, we can teach them to keep only in the corner and when they reach the end of the street, they should always stop.
No matter what, they should always stop.
Some drivers, when they see a child at the end of the street, will stop and a young child will take this as permission for him/her to cross and he/she may cross without thinking about looking to see if there is any other moving vehicle.
Therefore, according to their age, encouraging them to stop and wait until we have caught up with them, is the best way to go.
Dropped Items This is a big one and that is, many children and for many reasons is usually found walking with something in their hands and, or their pockets.
As they walk, their item can suddenly drop from their hand or their pockets and it usually take them a few seconds to realise this and, before we know it, they have run back to retrieve their item.
If an item fall, as soon as they realise it, they should tell us and we take it from there, that is, if to pick it up or to leave it.
