How to Remove Cat Urine Out of Quarry Tile

    • 1). Wipe up fresh urine with paper towels. The most important step is to wipe up as much excess moisture as possible. Pay attention as you wipe so that you don't inadvertently force urine into the grout lines.

    • 2). Mop with hot, soapy water. Fill the mop bucket with hot water and add a splash of soapy cleaner. Use household cleaner, dishwashing liquid or any other soap. The goal is to clean as much residual urine from the tile as possible.

    • 3). Consider using an enzyme-based cleanser. Enzyme-based cleansers are very effective at neutralizing odors such as cat urine. If you have enzyme based cleaner, mop the floor again with the cleaner, following the manufacturer's directions. If you don't have any of this cleaner on hand, continue on to the next step. It is more important to work quickly. You can always go back later and use the enzyme cleaner if odor is a problem.

    • 4). Rinse thoroughly with a vinegar and water solution. Add one cup of vinegar to a gallon of water, and mop the floor again. It is important to rinse the floor thoroughly to remove any lingering cat urine residue as well as the residue of the soap remaining on the floor. Soapy residue will make the floor look dull, and dirt will adhere easily to the tiles.

    • 5). Wipe dry with a clean cloth or paper towels. Use a clean dry towel or a handful of paper towels and dry the floor thoroughly. The towels should appear clean after drying the floor. Any yellow or brown residue means that the floor isn't clean.
