De Quervain"s Tendonitis - Every Hitchhiker"s Worst Nightmare

Ok...
so not the best joke in the world about tendonitis.
Certainly De Quervain's tendonitis or tendonitis of the thumb is no laughing matter especially since a progressive form of the condition, without the proper treatment, could lead to tendonitis surgery.
This type of tendonitis is known to be a painful, inflammatory condition of the thumb that may shoot tendonitis pain through the hand all the way up to the wrist.
Immediate treatment of thumb tendonitis should involve icing any areas of inflammation, using over-the-counter pain relievers such as Tylenol, wearing a brace or a wrap for support and getting plenty of rest.
Rest is a critical component of the healing process especially since repeating the same motion or overdoing an activity involving the thumb, such as typing, may be the direct cause of one's tendonitis.
For long-term pain management and prevention of De Quervain's tendonitis, one should pay very special attention to his or her nutritional diet.
Avoiding foods that are high in sugar should be a priority especially since simple sugars have a tendency to increase pain-causing hormones in the human body.
Substituting sodas and candy with fruits and vegetables should make a huge difference in terms of the levels of tendonitis pain.
Eating Omega-3 enriched foods is another great way to experience some natural pain relief from De Quervain's tendonitis.
Omega-3 essential fatty acids are a source of "good" fats that help naturally lower pain and inflammation in the body.
Salmon, beans, nuts, and leafy greens are all excellent sources of Omega-3 fats.
Exercise is another important long-term pain management tool in the effective prevention of De Quervain's tendonitis or thumb tendonitis.
Gently squeezing a racquetball or tennis ball or even opening and closing your fist may provide a benefit to help strengthen the muscles and tendons of the thumb.
Keep in mind, exercises like these should not be performed while one is experiencing tendonitis pain or discomfort in the thumb, hands or wrists.
Surgery for De Quervain's tendonitis should only be considered after all forms of tendonitis treatment (i.
e.
, ice, rest, medication, physical therapy, etc.
) fail and if your doctor or orthopedist recommend it.
Tendonitis surgery should also be considered if De Quervain's tendonitis was the result of a previous injury or underlying condition.
De Quervain's tendonitis is no laughing matter whether or not you are a hitchhiker.
If you have been diagnosed with tendonitis, it is best to treat any sore areas of the thumb, hand or wrist right away.
Be sure to employ a long-term pain management strategy if you are suffering from De Quervain's tendonitis.
Lastly, consider tendonitis surgery only as a last resort.
