Root Canal Treatment Causes And Treatment

Tooth Decay is common amongst large percentage of world population. It is so widespread because of poor oral hygiene.

What is Tooth Decay?

Tooth Decay is demineralization of tooth due to acidic releases from bacteria. The acids released from bacteria cause the tooth to decay. The tooth starts decaying from outer surfaces and progresses to deeper layers.

Causes of Tooth Decay:

Tooth decay does not occur in a day. It is a gradual process which might take months to years to happen. Poor oral hygiene is common amongst all ages. This causes formation of plaque, responsible for growth of decay causing bacteria. These bacteria release acids inside the mouth, leading to demineralization of tooth.

It is must to brush your teeth twice, daily and rinse your mouth after every meal. However, it is rarely practiced in adults and this leads to growth of disease carrying bacteria. Too much starchy and sugary diet and excessive smoking also leads to tooth decay.

When a small white chalky spot appears on tooth, then this means that the enamel has dissolute by acid producing bacteria and the condition is getting serious. This is the very initial stage of tooth decay, because, after some time, this white chalky spot turns brown and starts progressing into deeper layers. The deeper layers are quite sensitive. This is because of presence of nerves. Infected person starts experiencing pain in tooth and gums due to invasion of bacteria in soft inner layers.

It is because of demineralization that the area becomes soft leading to pain and sensitivity.

In extreme cases, it leads to formation of root canal.

Prevention is better than cure:

It hardly takes five to six minutes of your daily schedule to brush your teeth twice and rinse your mouth after every meal. Proper brushing and flossing will ensure good oral hygiene. Regular dental check-ups every six months will also prevent you from developing this disease.

Treatment of Root Canal:

When the decay has reached gums and progressed further to nerves, then an RCT or root canal treatment is suggested. The entire decayed pulp is removed and an inert material is filled and sealed in that place. A cap is applied in those cases, so that the filling does not come out.
