Tips For Negotiating With a Car Salesman

One of the things people dread most about buying a new car is the negotiating process.
Many people don't like the confrontation, while others don't really know what they are doing.
It isn't a process that you can learn overnight.
It is instead a skill that is developed over years of practicing.
This article will walk you through a very effective method of negotiating the purchase of a new car.
BEFORE YOU CAN BEGIN THERE IS RESEARCH TO BE DONE Before you can get started you need to research the car you want to buy.
You need to know the exact model and options that you want on the car so there are no misunderstandings with the salesmen.
The more you know about the car the better off you will be when you begin to talk with the salesmen.
After you know what kind of car you are going to buy, it is then time to locate anywhere from 5-15 dealerships in your area.
You should write down what city they are located in and the number of their sales department.
It really depends on how far you are willing to drive.
It is also important to find out what the different county sales tax rates are for vehicle purchases at the different dealers you will be working with.

com to find out what the average prices other people paid in my area.
ITS TIME TO START THE NEGOTIATING PROCESS Is all you have to do is pick up the phone and call one of the car dealers on your list.
When they answer tell them you are looking for the sales department.
After you get a salesman that answers, say the following: "Hi, I am calling around to different dealers to get prices on a (make, model, and options of the car) It is going to be a cash deal".
They will then begin to take down your contact information.
After they are done getting your information say the following: "Before I waste any of your time I will give you my best price.

They usually always will tell you that they are going to have to call you back because they have to look at the numbers.
Sometimes they will call you back fairly fast but not usually.
They are trying to make you wait and see how anxious you are to buy the car.
If they don't call you back after a few hours there is a simple solution to that.
When I don't get called back after a couple of hours, I call the dealership again and ask for the sales manager.
Sometimes they act like they don't want to talk to you.
After you get the sales manager, tell him that you called earlier and talked to a salesperson but they won't call you back.
They repeat the same process with the sales manager that you did with the salesperson.
From my experience the sales managers are usually a lot less hassle to deal with.
After you start getting some prices just keep calling the salesmen back and sharing your best price with them.
You will see how the price just keeps getting lower and lower.
You will also begin to see what dealers are less hassle to deal with.
HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN IT IS TIME TO STOP NEGOTIATING? You can really go for as long as you want.
However, I usually know that I am at the bottom when the dealers don't seem very interested in talking to me anymore.
Once I get to that point I will usually just wait a few days and see what dealers call me back.
This gives you an indication of who wants to sell the car the most.
I usually just work them a little bit more and then I try to get a dealer close to home to match the price so that I don't have to drive very far.
IT'S TIME TO WRAP THINGS UP! I usually ask for a quote before I will even set foot in the dealership.
After I have the quote, I set up a time to go into the dealership.
If you did a good job negotiating, then they will do everything they can to try to get you to pay more than the amount you discussed on the phone.
Many times I will write the amount on my check before I even go into the dealer.
Then when they try to raise my price, I just tell them sorry I only brought one check and the amount is written already.
They will end up completing the deal.
It all sounds so easy but it is really a lot more work than you think.
