- 1). Plant tomato and cucumber plants at the base of your trellis and train the vines to grow up and around it. For fruit lovers, substitute brightly colored strawberry plants and cantaloupe vines.
- 2). Plant grapevines in the fall for edible fruits and green leaves. Weave the vines throughout the trellis.
- 3). Plant a winter jasmine vine, which produces yellow flowers from January through March, at the start of the season. The willowy branches will create an attractive backdrop for decorative lights.
- 4). Grow sweet pea and bean vines on your trellis in early spring. The vibrant green vines will provide sweet and bite-sized vegetables to use in soups and salads.
