Anxiety Can Cause Hives: Know the Tree by Its Fruit

Did you know some fruit can be dangerous? One day you could be eating an orange and then suddenly you've got a bad case of hives on your hands (or somewhere else).
Okay, So maybe it's not extremely dangerous (hives won't kill you) but still...
It's just as scary.
In fact, they even did a study showing that people with hives have stress levels as high as someone going in for heart bypass surgery.
And all this because of a bowl of fruit? Well, maybe...
Indulge yourself in a few juicy strawberries and, sure, that could be what's causing your hives, but then again--maybe it's just plain old anxiety.
Wait, what? Apparently, anxiety also causes hives.
Hey, the mind is a powerful thing, right? What are hives? Just in case you're wondering what hives are, check this out:
  • Hives (also called urticaria) are flushed red bumps that appear on the skin
  • They can appear on one or many parts of the body
  • They come in many sizes, but are usually small like mosquito bites
  • They can cause itchiness and a burning sensation
The tree is known by its fruit To understand hives, you should know a little about histamine.
Histamine comes from the amino acid histidine.
What it does:
  • Aids immune response
  • Regulates the digestive system
  • Acts as a neurotransmitter in the brain
Besides the good stuff, unbalanced histamine levels are linked to many medical conditions, including hives.
And when it's released, it causes allergic symptoms by inflammation and muscle constriction.
Histamine reacts a) when the body detects an allergy, b) when adrenaline rises (like during an anxiety attack), c) when histamine-foods are digested, d) when a disease or infection is present, or e) when the body is dehydrated.
When histamine reacts (depending on your level of tolerance), it can break out into small blotches beneath the skin.
We call those hives.
Histamine and anxiety When you're having an anxiety attack, adrenaline kicks in.
And adrenalineincreases your blood pressure.
Histamine counteracts adrenaline by expanding blood vessels and lowering blood pressure.
And this reaction could be what's causing your hives.
But, let's say you're not anxious.
You're strolling along in the park, and it's quite nice.
But for some reason your histamine levels are really high.
And because of this your blood pressure drops.
Your body notices this and says hey wait a minute, I need to keep that blood pressure up, so it accommodates by making your heart beat faster and work harder.
Suddenly, you're breathing faster and you're having an anxiety attack.
And if you're getting hives every time you have an anxiety attack, that's a pretty clear sign that your histamine levels are soaring.
Besides hives, here are other signs that your histamine levels may be too high:
  • allergies
  • runny nose
  • migraines
  • low blood pressure
  • bloating
  • depression
  • fatigue
  • irritable bowel syndrome
  • skin conditions
Is there something else going on? For everyone it's going to be different.
After all, not everyone gets hives when they have an anxiety attack.
But, there's definitely a strong link between high histamine levels and hives.
If you're really concerned that there's something more going on than anxiety alone my best suggestion (as with anything outside the realm of anxiety) is to see your doctor.
