Job Description for Oracle Developer

    Job Description

    • The Oracle developer's main task is to design the databases in the software and troubleshoot any problems with them. The developers have to ensure the databases they design will be accessible to all users and the databases can store the information put into the computer. Once the Oracle developer has fine-tuned the database, it is ready to be installed. Since Oracle has its own language, databases are developed for financial companies, warehouse businesses, retail stores, health care and insurance companies.

    Job Requirements

    • Companies that hire Oracle developers require they have at least two or more years experience working with Oracle databases. Some companies also require the Oracle developer have good communications skills, because he'll probably work with a team to help develop the database. Companies also require the developer has had experience with a program named SQL, or structured query language and PL, or procedural language. SQL allows the developer to select data for updating, adding, or deleting records. Many Oracle developers must have an analytical mind.

    Education

    • Getting a degree in computer science from a university or college is a good way to learn Oracle databases, but there is no specialized educational requirement to be a developer for Oracle. Many companies require that Oracle developers have a computer science background. Some companies will hire Oracle developers who don't have a college degree but possess the necessary experience working with Oracle. There are many Oracle developers who are self-taught.

    • Oracle developers can find jobs across the country for many different companies. Some companies that hire Oracle developers include Deloitte, a consulting firm headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio; Clearwire, a broadband Internet provider in Kirkland, Washington; and AT&T, the phone, Internet and wireless company in Dallas, Texas.

    • An Oracle developer's salary varies from company to company, but can start anywhere from $69,000 and go up to or over $100,000, according to Payscale.com.
