- Extreme fear or worry that surrounds the thoughts that a person has about being sick or feeling sick.
- Worrying about consuming particular types of food which could make the sufferer more inclined to be sick.
- Obsessive cleanliness of surfaces and rooms that are used to make food.
A sufferer might even go so far to refuse to eat at friend's houses or in restaurants. - The refusal to care for someone who could be sick - for example elderly relatives or children.
For someone with Emetophobia seeing or even hearing another person being sick is just as bad as being sick themselves. - Many sufferers will actively refuse to use certain types of transport.
Cars are one particular type of transport that is avoided and as you can imagine avoiding cars is virtually impossible in today's society. - Some people with Emetophobia can even develop an eating disorder as they are so determined not to eat food which could make them sick.
- Panic attacks can also be another sign of the condition and for many sufferers these reach a stage where they are unable to leave their house as they are so worried about this happening.
