Discovering The Loyalty Of Fila Brasileiros

A Fila Brasileiro dog, also known as a Brazilian Mastiff, can be loving and very protective of his family but it can only be described as a massive dog so it is not really safe to have around children or even unfamiliar adults around.
Precautions should always be in place when dealing with a Brazilian Mastiff.
Despite this precaution, there is however no doubt to the Fila's devotion to children.
It is thus a personal judgment if you decide to allow your children to mix with your Fila Brasileiro, considering these factors.
This dog's loyalty to his master cannot be questioned and as proof, the Fila Brasileiro has been declared Brazil's National Dog.
The Brazilian motto of being "faithful as a Fila" is thus understandable.
There is no need to teach a Fila Brasileiro to protect his master because he was bred to do just that.
The Fila Brasileiro breed was first developed in Brazil specifically to guard man and his property.
These dogs are ideal for guarding both the family of his master and his estate.
However, the Filas are also very good in guarding cattle, hunting jaguars and tracking down fugitives and Brazilian slaves.
It is thus natural to see the Filas in cattle farms and large plantations.
This breed is a good mix of the Bloodhound, the Bulldog and the Mastiff.
It got its massive looks and lonely facial expression from its Mastiff ancestors.
Its stubborn temperament was inherited from the Bulldogs.
The Fila's outstanding ability to scent tracks was inherited from the Bloodhounds.
Filas are wary of strangers so do not expect even a trained or socialized Fila Brasileiro to take immediately to strangers and people who are not part of the family (and are thus not often seen by the dog).
It is thus foolhardy to leave Filas alone with complete strangers.
One of the most challenging parts of raising a Fila Brasileiro is the ability to regulate their exercise so that it is just enough to keep them fit but not stressed enough as to damage their bones and ligaments.
Filas are very active and can become destructive when they get bored so make sure you supervise your Fila Brasileiros properly to avoid damage not only to your property and to other people's property but also damage to the Fila's health.
