First, I would like to say that my wife and I are experienced travelers and our cruise to Antarctica on Antarctic Dream was easily the highlight of our traveling lives. Part of this was due to Antarctica's incredible landscape and wildlife, but much of it was due to the outstanding crew and staff and beautiful cruise ship that Antarctic Dream provided.
The main reason I wanted to write this review is that I was very worried after reading a long negative review on this site from 2006 about choosing Antarctic Dream and I wanted to provide a more recent counterpoint to that review.
My wife and I could not have been happier. The crew was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, helpful and a joy to be around. Pablo, our trip leader looked as excited as we were to be there and he ran the boat magnificently. The leader, captain, guides and waitstaff all spoke excellent English. The ability for the cook and his staff to create the diversity of such tasty food was simply unbelievable.
The crew made every effort to make sure we were happy with the trip, from constantly being on the lookout for wildlife and spreading out to immerse themselves with the guests during meals to answer questions, to creating an extra landing because we made the Drake crossing quicker than normal (we had 13 landings, each of which was at least 3 hours).
In regards to a previous lengthy negative review, I am not sure what happened to her, but we went this past season and there was nothing of the negative aspects she spoke of.
Everyone on board was very happy with their experience. There were no moldy floors or poor drainage, no bad smells, everything was well though out and tied or bolted down. The ship was beautiful.
Though I must say that, after talking to guides and crew members on board, it sounds like almost all boats that go to Antarctica have frequently revolving staff and crew so it is hard to know what the situation will be when you book a cruise. Regardless, I would highly recommend Antarctic Dream.
