- Gift baskets can be a perfect gift for most anyone. Give your client a birthday gift basket full of gourmet deli meats and cheeses along with a bottle of high-end wine or his favorite whiskey. You could also present a scented lotion gift basket to a female client. If you know your client's preferences and hobbies, consider a themed gift basket. For a runner, for example, include a pedometer, wrist band, stopwatch and gift card to an athletic retailer. For a cooking enthusiast, buy a specialty kitchen utensil or gadget, a cookbook and a new spice rack.
- Arrange a small reception for your client at your office. Buy a miniature birthday cake and punch and bring it to your next meeting with her. Invite your support staff to participate. You could also comp an hour or two of work during your client's birthday month or give him a free month of a new service. Or, make a small donation in your client's name to the charity or organization of her choice.
- A small, low-key birthday outing for a client can make her feel preferred and special. Take your client out to lunch on her birthday, or wait until the end of the business day and invite your support staff and client out to happy hour. You could also invite your client to be your guest at your private club or gym on his birthday. You could also invite your client along to a business function, such as an after-hours social or a winery or gallery opening.
- Gift cards are often the fastest and easiest way to demonstrate your appreciation to a client, especially if you find out his interests beforehand. If you know he's a busy man, buy him a series of low-denomination gift cards to casual or fast-food restaurants. If he's a coffee fan, get him a refillable gift card to his favorite coffee shop. If she's clearly a little stressed, consider a gift card to a local spa or yoga studio.
