- Always wear a welding mask with the proper tinting for the type of welding you are doing. Failure to wear a mask can result in serious and permanent damage to your eyes.
- Select clothing that provides good maneuverability while protecting from sparks, burns and radiation. Wool is an excellent material for this.
- Welding involves a great deal of electricity. Even when the welder is off, there is still a danger of shock if the input chord is plugged in. Never weld in wet conditions or around water.
- Fumes from welding contain solid particles that can cause many adverse reactions, including nausea burns on the eyes and skin. Always keep your head out of the fume plume, and only weld in places with good ventilation.
- Welding involves extreme temperatures, and fire is always a hazard. Be sure not to weld near combustible materials, and pay attention to where the sparks are landing.
