10 Different Media Jobs

In this fast evolving world, media jobs cut across industries and span journalism, TV, radio, book publishing, magazines, film, photography, graphic design, advertising, multimedia and online content. Traditionally, media has been perceived to be a means of communication such as newspapers, radio and television. However, the scope has expanded vastly in recent times to include digital and electronic forms of media too. Here is a look at some of the jobs that are available in the field of media.

1) Advertising:-
Conventional forms of advertising are through hard copy newspapers, magazines, leaflets, flyers, posters and placards whereas digital and internet forms of advertising include digital magazines, promotionals, mobile SMS, radio, TV and film. Jobs span researchers, sales / marketing officers and designers.

2) Graphic Design:-
Graphical design is quite popular nowadays. It is equally prevalent in paper, digital and internet media. Individuals proficient in niche software coupled with the ability to innovate and create can look forward to a great career.

3) Journalism & Press:-
Journalism is an industry that offers numerous opportunities. Individuals can now sign up as journalists either full-time or can freelance. Additionally, they can report events to conventional media like newspapers or publish to internet channels.

4) Publishing:-
The publishing industry focuses on publishing content both offline and online. Content may include books, journals, academic papers, etc. Some job profiles are advertising executives, writers, editors, production managers and marketing officers.

5) Radio:-
This is one of the oldest electronic media in vogue. It is an enduring medium that has survived the advent of TV. Jobs in this sector are radio jockeys, anchors, talk hosts, on air personalities and script writers.

6) Audio & Video Production:-
Audio and video production gives ears and eyes to forums like radio and television. Audio technicians, video technicians, art directors, music directors, directors and programmers constitute the bulk of the jobs.

7) Film & Television:-
By all counts, film and television is one of the liveliest forums available in media. The industry is enormous creating numerous jobs that span actors, directors, artists, set designers, technicians, editors and broadcasters.

8) Photography:-
Every creative medium has need for good photography since a picture is worth a thousand words. Careers in this segment include photographers, photography equipment technicians, photojournalists, news photographers and portrait photographers.

9) Public Relations:-
Public relations is the face of any business. There is a huge demand for this segment considering the penetration achieved by internet and computer technologies. Jobs span PR accounts directors, digital PR specialists, public relations managers, spokespersons and marketing directors.

10) Content Creation:-
Content provides the substance for media to exist. Without content, it would be a vacuum. Jobs in this area revolve around content writing and creating innovative content for offline media like newspapers and internet forums like websites. Nature of jobs varies based on specific needs of employers.

The above list is only a small sample of the vast number of job profiles available in the media segment. Individuals with right skill sets, creativity and dedication can map an exciting career for themselves.
