- 1). Place a 5 gallon bucket on the ground or sturdy work surface. Turn the bucket upside down so the bottom is facing up.
- 2). Drill two holes in the bottom of the bucket with a drill and 1/16 inch drill bit. Space the holes 4 to 6 inches apart on the bottom of the bucket.
- 3). Place the bucket on the ground next to the tree. Position the bucket so it sits as flat as possible to avoid tipping over.
- 4). Fill the bucket 3/4 full with water.
- 5). Monitor the bucket for the first few days to determine the rate at which the ground absorbs the water. Refill the bucket as needed with water.
