Starcraft 2 Terran Campaign Review

Wondering if you should spend the money on Starcraft 2? You've surely heard about all the great multiplayer features.
The league system, the new strategies, the great community fan base but I found a lot of people have glossed over the single player Terran campaign.
I know for me Starcraft's single player campaign was one of my favorite parts about it (other than being able to spawn games from a single CD for LAN play but that's a different story, damn EA).
I've written this short Starcraft 2 Terran campaign review just for you to help you make your decision.
Gameplay: The gameplay in the Terran campaign is awesome.
The missions are fairly varied but my favorite part was the addition of non linear elements to the story line.
You are given options as to which mission you want to perform and the missions almost mean something.
Generally each mission will give you some new toy to play with and you get to know in advance which new tech you are getting so you can plan accordingly.
Other than that choosing one mission over another really doesn't have a huge effect.
You can still choose to do the mission you skipped over.
There are some missions that have a choice at the beginning whether you side with one of your allies or the Protoss is one such choice.
I chose to side with my ally supposedly pissing the Protoss of but alas you couldn't tell after that mission.
Some other new features are the out of mission armory and new hybrid technology.
Most missions bring in some sort of cash reward which you get to spend on permanent upgrades to your units or to hire special mercenaries that can be built during missions to support your forces.
Some of the mercenaries include upgraded siege tanks, marines, pretty much any new unit you get you can hire an upgraded version for a price.
Once hired they are hired for the Terran campaign.
The hybrid technology forces you to make decisions that are far reaching.
Most every mission you have the chance to find tech from either the Protoss or the zerg (or both) that contributes to your research points.
At set intervals you get to choose between two new technologies.
For example I chose to have supply depots that drop in from orbit (so much faster to build) from the Protoss branch and self healing armor units from the zerg branch.
Character Development: The characters are developed throughout the story line fairly well.
There are a few cheesy scenes like Raynor shooting a TV screen or saying something cliche but its all easily overlooked and sometimes laugh out loud funny.
The best part is you get to get views from all the characters involved in the out of mission planning stage.
There is of course the old cast of characters, Protoss, raynor, mengsk, kerrigan, plus a bunch of new ones that really add depth to the story and make for some great twists and turns.
Mission Variety: The missions are broken up pretty well.
Although I don't think there was a single mission that had you start from a command center and scv's and build up a base.
Most of the time if you are going to have a base in the mission you will get a pretty standard base startup of supply depots, command center, scv's, barracks, factory, and sometimes starport.
It sure takes away most of the boring parts of waiting on the essentials to build.
There are only a handful of missions that can't be overrun by a mass of tanks and goliaths.
I consider this only a slight problem.
It's not really their fault though how many different mission types can you really come up with in an RTS? Overall: This is a great single player Terran campaign.
I've reviewed only the basics of what you should expect from the campaign.
There are also challenges that help you to learn to play multiplayer as well as the standard skirmish mode.
The only complaints that I have are that your decisions seem to lack permanent effect and that my favorite missions in the Terran campaign were actually Protoss missions (ironic).
But overall following Raynor and his band of rebels through this Terran campaign is one of the best single player experiences I've ever come across.
Also if you've played Starcraft before I wouldn't recommend playing the Terran campaign on normal or casual mode.
Your enemies will not put up a fight, at all.
I started the Terran campaign on normal and had to stop because it was way to easy.
I hope you've enjoyed this Starcraft 2 Terran campaign review.
I'd definitely recommend buying the game even if the only thing you do is play single player this game is definitely worth it.
