- The U.S. Department of Education recognizes the ACCET as an authority on the quality of education provided. The ACCET is the only accrediting organization classed as an ISO 9001: 2008 -- Quality Management System by the International Organization for Standardization. The ACCET mainly focuses on occupational degree qualifications, from institutes such as the International Language Institute of Massachusetts and the National Holistic Institute.
- The Middle States Commission on Higher Education accredits degree programs across the middle states, including Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The commission is not a governmental body, and it focuses on accrediting organizations rather than specific courses of study. Accredited institutions include the Berkeley College, Bucknell University, Camden County College, Columbia University and the George Washington University. Any degrees offered by these organizations or any other accredited by the Middle States Commission are recognized degrees.
- The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools' Commission on Colleges accredits higher education institutions in the southern states. The Commission on Colleges covers institutions in states such as Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Kentucky, Georgia and North and South Carolina that award associate, bachelor's, master's or doctorate degrees. Institutions accredited by the Commission on Colleges include Alabama State University, Duke University, Eastern Kentucky University, Hampton University, Lone Star College System and Louisiana State University.
- Many other accrediting bodies recognized by the U.S. Department of Education cover educational institutions and degree programs across the U.S. and internationally. Other accredited bodies include the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools, the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and the Distance Education and Training Council Accrediting Commission. These bodies accredit degrees in different states and regions, and any degree offered by an accredited organization is a recognized degree. See Resources for a complete list of recognized accrediting bodies.
