Tattoo Removal Using TCA

Understanding the science behind the use of trichloroacetic acid or simply TCA is not that complicated as what others might think. TCA is increasingly becoming a popular tattoo removal method basically because of its effectiveness in fading and completely removing tattoos. TCA is actually an exfoliant agent which causes the upper layer of the skin to peel off. Nevertheless, our bodies have its own exfoliation abilities. What TCA does is quicken the exfoliation process.

While TCA is a very effective tattoo removal process, it cannot remove the tattoo during the first peel. You may need at least 6 peels to completely remove your tattoo; TCA tattoo removal is not instantaneous. This will also depend on the size as well as color of your tattoo. Brightly colored tattoos fade quicker than black colored tattoos. TCA is thereby the more sensible option if you do not have the money to pay for laser treatments.

Depending on your skin type and its tolerance for chemicals, TCA may or may not be for you. Nevertheless, if you are comfortable with a little discomfort, you may resort to slowly fade your tattoo using TCA. TCA is also highly advisable if you want to cover your old tattoo with a new one. As such, there will be no need to remove the tattoo but just fade it for some cover-up work.

TCA works no matter how old your tattoo is. The possibility of removing old tattoos is that TCA uses our own bodily process of exfoliating. As such, TCA can be considered as the least invasive tattoo removal process. TCA has the capacity of neutralizing itself which means that it will work once applied. TCA will not stop working as well albeit splashing cold water once you experience the burning sensation. you may resort to slowly fade your tattoo using TCA. TCA is also highly advisable if you want to cover your old tattoo with a new one.

While 100% TCA may be used for all skin types, there are some specific cautions though. If you have very sensitive skin but still want to discard your tattoo, you have to use TCA solution of 50%. You have to dilute TCA with water. You may still experience burning even if you use 50% solution but it will be definitely lesser. Further, 100% TCA solution must not be used for particular areas that are not normally exposed to the sunlight like chest, stomach or back.
