- 1). Wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner and comb your hair until it's free of tangles. If your hair is a little damp, it may be easier to work with.
- 2). Gather your hair into a bundle on the top of your head, and tie it up with a rubberband or hair band. Loosen some of your hair and let it hang down to create a layer that covers your scalp. Collect this hair and lean forward, as if making bangs. Take very sharp scissors and cut straight across the ends of the hair.
- 3). Repeat with at least two more layers, varying the length of the cut progressively, but always cutting straight across. The key to avoiding the "choppy" look is to cut neatly, in ordered layers. This creates a textured, rather than "wild" look.
