Well, Labor Day has passed and the time is fast approaching that the clubs will be retired to the closet some time soon.
But that doesn't mean there is no way to improves your game and your scores when they come out next spring.
Since putting accounts for more than 40% of the average guys golf score, even in the worst blizzard they are able to improve half of their game.
But not if the putter stays in the closet.
While I have never really been a big fan of practicing putting, I will still spend a few minutes during the weeks to practice it during the winter when I can no longer get to the course.
You don't need a hole and grass to practice putting.
The hole does nothing but get in the way of your putting practice anyway.
But instead of not doing anything, pick up your putter and make a few strokes with no ball.
Work a little bit each week to feel your stroke.
You should also reduce the field for your practice when you are using a ball.
Don't work on putt the full length of your mat where you will miss.
Hit nothing outside of two feet all winter long.
By removing the possibility of a miss, either because you are so close to the hole or are not using a ball, you will get to the course without the knowledge or feel of a missed putt.
You will identify your stroke by it's feel and associate that feel with success.
