- 1). Purchase a Gong with mallets. You want to visit a site that offers gongs and mounting stands for purchase. To start, there is no need to get anything extravagant, just a reasonably priced gong (or two) will do for you at the moment. Since you are just practicing for now, you can delve into more levels of spirituality later. Remember that you will need to have a mallet for each hand so that you can strike your gong with both hands.
- 2). Sit in front of your gong in a relaxed state. Once you have your gongs mounted, and then sit on a pillow or soft blanket in front of your gong. Light some candles and burn incense for an even greater effect.
- 3). Strike Your Gong. While it is good to have an instructor or someone trained in gong therapy to help you with this, you can actually do it yourself. When you are ready for your "gong bath", strike your gong with your right handed mallet in its center. As that sound reverberates, use your left handed mallet to add nuances to the sound, all depending on where you want to take it.
- 4). Experiment with sounds. Now you are rolling! Or gonging! During your gong bath, you will experience a washing of sound that blots out all current concerns and problems. Through various mallets and striking techniques, your gong experience will take you through time and space as you explore various planes of comfort and relaxation.
- 5). Conclude your session. After about 45 minutes or an hour, strike the gong in the center one last time and let that sound fade away as you slowly close your eyes and allow quiet to wash over you.
