- 1). Visit COMPASS, the state of Georgia's site for access to social services (see Resources). Click on the "Am I Eligible?" box to start the pre-screening questionnaire which will let you know if you qualify.
- 2). Click through the onscreen prompts, answering the questions you are asked about your family size, income and what types of bills you pay. On the final screen, you will be told whether or not you are likely to qualify for food stamp benefits.
- 3). Click on the "Apply for Benefits" tool if you were told you are likely to qualify. Answer the preliminary questions about your family situation and then click on the "next" arrow. If you already have a COMPASS account, log in and skip to step 4. Otherwise, follow the onscreen instructions to create a new account and return to the COMPASS homepage.
- 4). Follow the onscreen prompts in the "Apply for Benefits" tool, answering all the questions asked about your family and finances. When you are sure you have entered all the information accurately, submit your application.
- 5). Gather all your supporting documents in one place so that you will be prepared when the Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) calls to schedule your application interview.
- 6). Present your supporting documents to the social worker during your interview. The meeting can take place in your home or at the nearest DFCS office. If you are unavailable, another adult member of your household can attend in your place.
- 7). Look for your EBT card in the mail soon after your social worker calls to let you know your application has been accepted. Use the card at the grocery store the same way you would use a debit or credit card to pay for your groceries.
