How to Open New Bank Accounts for Bonuses

    • 1). Read the full terms and conditions of the bonus offer to determine what actions you must take to get the bonus money being offered. Banks typically require new customers to take certain actions, like setting up a regular direct deposit or making a minimum number of debit card purchases, to earn their bonus money.

    • 2). Contact your employer for instructions on how to change your direct deposit. Many bank bonus offers require you to set up a direct deposit into the new account. Knowing the process ahead of time makes it easier to get things rolling and earn your cash reward.

    • 3). Visit a local bank branch and ask to speak to an account representative. Tell the representative you want to open an account to take advantage of the bonus offer. Review the terms and conditions of the offer, including the requirements for earning the cash bonus.

    • 4). Provide the bank representative with the identification documents needed to open the account. You must have a valid form of ID, like a passport or driver's license, to open the account. If you are opening the account online, you will be prompted to enter your passport or driver's license number during the application process.

    • 5). Fund your account with at least the minimum needed to open the account. Be sure to ask the bank representative about any minimum balance requirements, as well as the minimum balance required to avoid monthly service fees.

    • 6). Take a copy of the bonus offer with you and keep it with you after the account is open. Read the document carefully and use it to fulfill the terms of the bonus offer. For instance, you may be required to make a set number of debit card purchases to get the bonus money. Having the bonus offer sheet with you serves as a reminder to make those purchases once you receive your debit card.

    • 7). Check your account balance for the bonus money. The terms and conditions of the offer should state when the bonus will be credited. Contact the bank if the specified amount of time has passed and you have still not received your bonus offer.
