- 1). Make an at-home shower budget that includes cleaning products, decorations, chairs, tables, invitations, food, prizes and personalized favors.
- 2). Decide on the exact location and measure the space to see how many guests can be accommodated. For example, if the organizer offers to use her house for the shower, she must decide whether to use her living room or basement to host the party.
- 3). Select decorations for the at-home baby shower based on the mother-to-be's preferences. For example, if the mother is traditional and lighthearted, the organizer can host an alphabet-themed shower, which includes a pastel-colored cake or individual cupcakes made out of letters.
- 4). Create invitations based on the theme, place and time. For example, if the at-home shower has a brunch theme, then the time for the shower should be set for the early afternoon. Be sure to write the location, directions, dress code and registry information. Also, include a contact number or email address to RSVP to.
- 5). Start clearing out space for the shower and rent chairs for the event a week in advance. Try to get a final count on the number of the attending guests to know the number of chairs needed. Order an extra five to be safe.
- 6). Find the perfect cake and accessories to go with the selected theme. For example, if the baby shower has a chic black-and-white theme, include white plates, real black-and-white napkins and silverware instead of plastic. Also, include a marble cake, a chocolate cake with white icing or black-and-white icing on a vanilla cake.
- 7). Ask friends to cook or cater the food. The cuisine should be reflective on the theme of the shower. For example, if the shower has a baby bird theme, then the food should be bite-size, such as finger sandwiches, pigs in blankets and quiche. If the shower has a pampering mom theme, the food may include the mother-to-be's favorite dishes and nonalcoholic beverages, such as virgin pina coladas.
- 8). Decide whether or not there will be games to play during the shower. If yes, decide on which baby shower games will be fun, such as the "Guess Mommy's Tummy Size" game. If no, decide on what activity will replace the game, such as making a scrapbook.
