- 1). Log onto the BBC Languages French page for a 12-question multiple choice test to get a basic idea of your French level. Although it is not an exact assessment tool, the site notes that the test will give you an “approximate indication of your knowledge.”
- 2). Visit the ESL Language Studies Abroad site for a more in-depth multiple choice test comprising 40 questions designed to test your grammar skills. At the conclusion of the test you will be assigned a level from beginning to advanced.
- 3). Test your comprehension skills by logging onto Radio France International’s (RFI) French language page to listen to extracts of French radio reports followed by multiple choice questions (also in French). Once your French has progressed to a more advanced level, try the “test du connaissances de français,” which is designed for high intermediate and advanced learners.
- 4). Grow your vocabulary by logging onto frenchflashcards.com. In additional to interactive flashcards, the site also offers written drills to enhance your comprehension and writing skills.
- 5). Log on to test-my-french.com after several months of study for a comprehensive test of your written, reading and oral comprehension skills. Composed of seven sections and conducted entirely in French, the test is best taken once you have attained either a high intermediate or advanced level knowledge of the language.
