Let's face it. Most of us lead busy, hectic lives. Lives that are so busy in fact that eating healthy becomes a chore. Having a truly healthy meal means you have to go to the store, spend money on healthy food (which ironically costs more than junk food), and on top of that you still have to go home and cook it.
I'm going to share with you today some easy tips you can use to eat healthier from one day to the next. Hopefully they're easy enough to make you resist that temptation to stop at the nearest fast food restaurant just because it's fast and cheap.
Plan ahead: If you know for sure that you're going to be away from home for quite a few hours at one time, bring some healthy snacks with you that won't spoil. This way, you don't have to scrounge for change to spend on junk at the vending machine.
Eat Often Enough: You shouldn't go more than 4-6 hours without eating something. Going too long without eating anything makes it much easier for you to make poor food decisions. Eating something often enough, even it it's just a snack, will prevent you from having that "starving" feeling, and help you make better food choices.
Eat breakfast: Now when I say eat breakfast, I don't mean you have to have a HUGE breakfast, complete with eggs, pancakes, fruit, cereal, toast, etc. Just keep things small and simple. A small bowl of cereal and some skim milk, or just some yogurt with a piece of fruit before you head to work is a great way to start your day.
Eat when you need it most: Give your brain and body the fuel it needs when it needs it the most. Instead of consuming most of your calories at night, try to balance them evenly throughout your day. I know this is much easier said than done, but you'll feel much better because this is when your body is the most active, and when it requires the most calories.
