- 1). Shampoo and condition your hair. Blot your hair dry with a towel and comb it to remove tangles.
- 2). Determine how much of your hair you want to cut. Cutting your hair is the only effective way to remove a perm or chemicals that are at the ends. Each time you cut the ends of your hair you are removing the chemical and new hair will begin to grow quickly from your roots.
- 3). Use a comb to part your hair into small sections. Comb a small section of hair from the roots to the tip. Hold the hair firmly between your index and middle finger. Cut the full length of the permed or chemically-treated hair or trim only the ends of your hair to maintain your hair length.
- 4). Spray some water from the spray bottle on your hair to keep it damp during the cutting process. Continue to cut small sections of your hair until it is an even length on every side.
- 5). Comb and style your hair as usual.
