- 1). Cut 8 to 10 inches from a mature branch of your evergreen using a pair of sharp pruning shears. Cut the branch at a 45-degree angle.
- 2). Wound the end of the branch using a knife, making two angled cuts down an inch of the cutting. This exposes the wood underneath.
- 3). Dip the end of the cutting that was wounded previously into a rooting hormone.
- 4). Mix together one part sand to two parts peat in a pot.
- 5). Poke a pencil into the perlite and sand mixture and place the wounded end of the cutting into the hole. Press down on the mixture to secure the cutting in place.
- 6). Moisten the perlite and sand mixture with water and cover the plant with a plastic bag. Place the plant in an area with indirect sunlight. Check the soil every few days to make sure it is moist. Move the plant from the soil once it begins to grow.
