If you know little about static caravans and want to get all clued up we have provided everything you possibly need to know about them so that you can be a caravan know it all!
A static-caravan is a prefabricated home. This means that instead of being built on the site that it will live it's life on, it is built in a factory. They are then transported from the factory (usually being pulled by a tractor-trailer) to a place where it will be occupied.
A conventional mobile home or static caravan is placed on location and is then left there permanently. However they do retain the ability to be moved when required to do so.
Mobile homes come in two major sizes; single-wides or double-wides. A single-wide is your more conventional static caravan. It is generally 5.5m or less in width and 27m or less in length. Due to its smaller size it can be transported to where needs to be in a single unit. Depending on the interior layout, this traditional caravan can sleep between 2 and 6 people. They normally include a wash room with a toilet, basin and shower and also a kitchen area featuring appliances such as a sink, hob, work surfaces and other necessities.
A double-wide is slightly bigger and measures 6.1m or more in width and 27m or more in length however it has to be towed in two separate units which will be joined together on assembly.
Did you know? You can also have a triple-wide static caravan and even homes with four, five or more units although they are not built as commonly.
Single-wide static caravan owners often sell or trade their home to a dealer. This size of caravan is more likely to be traded than a double-wide caravan because transporting them from one site to another is much easier. In fact only five percent of double-wides will ever be moved!
So now to the more exciting bit! What is the process of manufacturing a caravan?
The majority of caravans that you will see on the roads of the UK are generally made in Britain by six popular manufactures which include Bailey, Coachman, Elddis, Lunar, Swift group and Van master. However some American static caravans such as Continental are becoming increasingly popular over here in the UK as the years go by.
