Quit Smoking Methods - There Are a Number of Options

There's one thing about quitting smoking that any smoker would be only too keen to unhesitatingly affirm - it is not easy! However, since every coin obviously has two sides - those who have managed to kick the habit, by benefiting from any of the diverse quit smoking methods, would be prone to assert with greater gusto, that quitting smoking is possible, and far easier than is normally envisioned when you look at the bigger picture.
The world has been gradually becoming more conscious towards health concerns and environmental issues.
Unfortunately, this has increasingly come to mean that the relaxed and peaceful chap, languorously sucking at the tiny tobacco stick held between his fingers, evokes people's irrational ire.
The poor smoker has suddenly found himself converted into a living symbol of personal irresponsibility, contempt for the environment, inconsideration to others, and general civilisational depravity.
Indeed, this world has been unjust and almost cruel to the worldwide community of the lovers of the cozy smoke.
The tribe of smokers has included such famous people as Oscar Wilde, who paid the following flattering tribute to smoking that perhaps not every smoker may be willing to fully subscribe to: "A woman is only a woman, but a cigar is a good smoke.
" So, what should the different quit smoking methods start with? Of course the most obvious starting point would be with the smoker's genuine desire to quit smoking.
Not much headway can be made unless the subject wants a change in their habit and is willing to outgrow and shun it.
The immediate motivation to quit smoking may be varied for different addicts, but it has to be real and significant.
Concern for one's health is the most common reason inspiring a smoker to extricate him from the soothing puffs that are now officially variously labeled in several countries as causing injury to health, cancer and death.
Disapproval for the habit by one's family members, spouse or children, and friends, also matters to smokers.
The recurring expense of cigarettes and the entailed medical expenditure thereafter, works as a deterrent in few cases.
There are several quit smoking methods available, with varying degrees of reported success.
These may be mentioned as follows.
Individual resolve - The smoker's resolve to quit smoking works magically, but it may not guarantee success.
To quote the famous humorist Mark Twain, "Quitting cigarettes is easy; I've done it thousands of times!" Negative and positive reinforcements from significant others - This psychological mode employs "operant conditioning" to regulate behaviour.
Aversion therapy - People try to develop an aversion for cigarettes by associating it with undesirable consequences.
Replacement - This is about eating a chocolate rather than reaching out for the cigarette, as an example.
Physical exercises - Instead of lighting up after dinner, take a stroll.
Hypnosis - Last, but not the least, is the hypnotic method of integrating one's personality, sending the right affirmations to one's subconscious, and then dropping the habit.
Experienced hypnotists, however, may be hard to come by, and can be priced rather stiffly.
Surprisingly, as compared with the other quit smoking methods, hypnosis appears to have a higher success rate.
Although there are many quit smoking methods to choose from and you may have even tried some of them without success in the past, it is still possible to find a quit smoking method that will be successful for you.
