- 1). Lay out the LEDs on your circuit board in three rows of four LEDs, with the 13th LED on the end of the top or bottom row. The LEDs represent the numbers 8, 4, 2 and 1, with the rows representing hours (top), tens of minutes (middle) and ones of minutes (bottom), with the last LED representing a.m./p.m. Make sure the shorter (cathode) leads on your LEDs are toward the bottom of the circuit board.
- 2). Attach the 18-pin socket to the board above the LEDs, and attach the three push buttons below the LEDs.
- 3). Attach the charging circuit to the reverse side of the board, behind the buttons, and the watch crystal to the top side of the board, above the socket.
- 4). Solder and clip the LED leads on the backside of the board. Solder the two capacitors and charging circuit onto the backside as well. The capacitors will connect to the crystal at one end and the board at the other.
- 5). Wire the rows and columns of LEDs so the row wires pull the pins low and the column wires pull the pins high.
- 6). Wire the buttons, battery and USB charger. Power up the watch and test it to ensure it works properly.
- 7). Enclose the watch face in fabric of your choice. Cut the fabric to cover the entire circuit board, then punch holes so the LEDs are visible. Wrap the fabric over the circuit board and sew closed.
- 1). Purchase your desired material to create the watch band or strap. You will want to select something that matches the watch face's enclosure.
- 2). Measure the circumference of your wrist and cut a 1-inch-wide segment of fabric that is roughly 1 inch longer than the circumference measurement.
- 3). Cut the strip at a point equal to half the circumference measurement. That will leave you with two uneven strips. Attach one to each side of the watch element.
- 4). Determine the type of clasp you want to use. Some options include snaps or the traditional hole-and-buckle system.
- 5). Attach the chosen clasp to the band. For a hole-and-buckle system, you can sew the buckle halves into the strap and using an awl to create the holes. Punch one hole at the exact point of the wrist circumference measurement, taking into account the size of the watch face. Then punch holes roughly a quarter-inch on either side to make the band adjustable. For snaps, use a snap press or other tool to fasten the snap halves at the appropriate points.
