Things to do in Elche

A spectacular city

Spain is one of those top destinations that have hundreds of things to offer to its visitors. What people love so much about Spain is the fact that this country has a small corner for any type of person. It does not matter what kind of interests or preferences you have or how you want to spend your holiday, because you will surely find the right place for you. Elche, for example, is one of the most popular and famous holiday destinations in Spain. The most attractive part about Elche is its impressive history. Thousands of people visit it every year, fascinated about the fact that Elche is one of those cities inhabited since 5000 BC. The Neolithic Age was the one in which the first establishments appeared around Elche and it all continued with Bronze Age. In the 5th century BC, the beautiful ‘'Lady of Elche'' was created, an artwork representing the creative Iberians. The preserved bust is now in one of the most amazing museums in Spain, the Madrid Archeological Museum.

A little bit of history

In the third century B.C., Carthaginians and Romans occupied Elche. In addition, it grew as a city during this century. Trading became an important branch in the economic life of Elche, as it flourished thanks to its port. The middle age represented the Muslim period in Elche's life, which started in the 8th century and only finished in the 13th century. The 14th century represented the century during which the Moorish rule ended for Elche, and the beautiful Christian rule started.

Elche today

The Christians transformed Elche into an industrial town, but this does not mean that you will not find something attractive to do there. It is an important and famous educational center, so you should visit it, as its Universities are truly spectacular. The Mediterranean kitchen is extremely delicious in Elche and everybody has heard of it, so it is a   recommendation that you to have a meal in one of Elche's restaurants. The culinary experience is unbelievable! While you are in Elche, do not miss the beauties of the Elche Palm Grove, a UNESCO World Heritage. The large orchard looks exactly like an oasis, formed by 200,000 palm trees. Nowhere else in the world will you be able to find something as breathtaking as this! You should definitely visit Elche at least once in your lifetime!
