Tips For First Time Cat Owners

A few tips if you are a first time cat owner figuring out what types of food and toys to buy.
If you are choosing not to declaw your cat, a cat scratching post is a must to ensure your new friend doesn't destroy your furniture.
As a first time cat owner, you probably feel like you are entering an unknown world.
It can be very confusing to try and understand what kinds of things you need to buy for your new animal companion.
Questions related to food, toys and litter boxes will come up frequently.
You will probably need to make at least one trip to the pet store to get the necessary supplies.
Don't forget the catnip and cat scratching post! What food you end up buying your pet will ultimately depend on their age.
Small kittens sometimes struggle to eat the dry food, while many veterinarians would recommend dry food for adult cats.
You will probably want to have a veterinarian on hand to answer any medical or heath related concerns you might have.
After examining your pet, they should have a good recommendation on what type of food they think would be best.
Ask them if they prefer a particular brand over another.
While you should definitely have some toys available for your new pet, try not to buy too many at once.
You will want to get an idea of their personality and what they like to play with before you invest too much in toys.
They may enjoy chasing balls around the house but never do much with a stuffed toy.
You will have to experiment to see what works best for them.
If you have decided to not to declaw your cat, you will probably want to purchase a cat scratching post.
This will give your pet a better place to scratch than your furniture.
Other toys may come with a cat scratching post built right into them.
If you are up for a bigger investment, there are trees that will give your pet a place to jump, scratch and play.
