After a long tiring week, we all deserve a little bit of pampering, but pricey spa sessions are not for everyone. If you can't go to the salon, bring the salon to you. Here are 6 DIY spa treatments you can do at home. These treatments will not take more than an hour or so of your afternoon and the results derived can be magnificent.
Create the Mood
First things first, create the mood for the spa. Start with the right music in the background. Whether you prefer relaxing to the tunes of your favorite musician or the soothing sound of crashing waves is what sets your nerves at ease, play it! Light some aromatic candles, slip into your silk bathrobe and don't forget the chocolate treats. A glass of champagne will make the setting just perfect.
Fruity Mask
Is the biting cold of winter leaving your skin chafed? Then here is a fruity face pack that will make your skin supple and smooth. Put some cold cream, yoghurt, aloevera gel and avocado in a blender. Give it a spin until the ingredients form into a smooth paste. Use a soft bristled brush to paint the pack on your face. Leave it on for 10 to 20 minutes and rinse it off. Voila! Your skin will be soft like a baby's.
Body Scrub
Why splurge big bucks on fancy body scrubs when you can make one at home? Here is what you will need – 2 cups of sugar, a ¾ cup of virgin oil, 1tbsp olive oil and scented essential oils of your choice. We recommend lavender or peppermint oil, as they have a soothing effect on the senses. Mix all the ingredients in a large bowl, whisk until they mix well. Store it in a container and use it as and when required. That's all, easy peasy. You can also play around with different ingredients to find the one that suit your skin type.
Lemon Toner
Nothing can mar your look the way flaky dark elbows and knees do. Want a simple solution to even out the tone? Lemon toner is here to the rescue! Take a slice of lemon and rub it gently on your rough elbows and knees. The acid in the lemon will smoothen and lighten the area.
Soften Hands
It is not just your body that needs attention; your hands can do with some pampering too. Put some milk cream, a few drops of olive and lavender oil with mashed banana in a blender. Give it a spin. When the consistency is smooth, lather it on your hands. Massage your hands and cuticle for a couple of minutes before you slip on the gloves. It will leave your hand soft and smooth.
Lip Scrub
Pucker up your lips this winter with this homemade scrub. You will need an equal proportion of sugar and virgin coconut oil, chopped fruits and flavored extracts of your choice. Transfer oil and sugar in a mixing bowl followed by fruit pieces and flavored extracts. Mix the ingredients gently together. Take care not to overdo it though, as it can melt the sugar granules. Store it in a tiny airtight container and put it in the freezer. Use it as and when required. One batch can easily last for two months.
Don't forget the moisturizing part after each scrub. It will help lock the moisture better.
