- 1). Paint the sheet of plywood white, front and back. This will allow the pencil marks to stand out and make cutting easier.
- 2). There are a number of ways to put the image on the wood. If you are artistic, then draw the Grinch as large as you would like on the plywood. If, on the other hand, that is not an option an overhead projector is a perfect solution. Place a picture of the Grinch on the overhead and shine it on the piece of plywood. Move the overhead around until the size is satisfactory. Trace the image on the plywood, making sure the lines are dark. Finally, if the overhead is a budget buster, take your image to a copy shop and get them to duplicate the picture to the size you need. Cut it out, place it on the wood, and trace around it. Then place carbon paper on top of the wood, but under the Grinch copy. Trace over the details with a ballpoint pen, pressing hard to transfer the image using the carbon paper.
- 3). Cut the image out of the plywood with a jigsaw. If the image requires cut-outs in the middle, use the drill and make a hole large enough for the jig's blade to fit. Don't drill too close to the image, since you don't want to damage your finished piece. Finish sawing out any areas that need it.
- 4). Paint the piece using outdoor latex paint. It may take a few coats to get the desired color and opacity. Allow the piece to thoroughly dry. Paint the entire piece with clear acrylic paint to protect it from the weather.
