- 1). Locate the location of the lateral and terminal buds on each stem as they begin to form. Check them every two to three days until they reach the size of small peas.
- 2). Grasp a lateral bud between your thumb and forefinger once it reaches the proper size.
- 3). Twist or pinch lightly, removing the bud from the plant cleanly. Repeat for the remaining lateral buds.
