- 1). Cut the tree down as close to the ground as possible using a chainsaw or ax. For larger trees, consider hiring a qualified tree surgeon to perform the task. Organizations such as the International Society of Arboriculture can provide recommendations.
- 2). Mix the herbicide in the ration specified in the instructions. If the mixture is too strong it will simply kill the cells near the wound and fail to travel through the root system.
- 3). Liberally apply the mixture to all cut surfaces of the tree using a brush. Apply again after approximately six weeks. If children or animals are in the area, surround the stump with secure fencing.
