- 1). Turn the shoe over in your less dominant hand. Hold it sole side up. Use the pencil to mark diagonal guide lines, if necessary.
- 2). Take the blade and slash the sole diagonally across the toe bed. Make the lines about 1/2 inch apart. Keep the cuts relatively shallow at this point. Score both shoes.
- 3). Try on the shoes and walk on a slick floor to see if more scoring is necessary. If it is, go over the same cuts in the sole, but press the blade a bit deeper. Try on the shoes again.
- 4). Add more striations if the soles are still slick. Criss-cross the lines in order to make a diamond pattern on the sole. Part of the appeal of runway scoring is the fact that it looks decent, so do the cutting in an orderly fashion.
