- 1). Raise and support the front of the truck on jack stands. Place the drain pan under the radiator petcock and with the use of the pliers, open the petcock and allow the antifreeze to drain.
- 2). Unbolt the splash shield under the radiator using the ¼-inch drive ratchet and a socket. Remove the spring clamp on the end of the radiator hose where it is attached to the thermostat housing on the timing chain cover. Use the constant tension clamp removal tool to remove this clamp. Pull the hose off the housing.
- 3). Loosen and remove the three bolts in the thermostat housing using a ratchet and a socket. Remove the housing from the timing chain cover. Clean the mounting surface for the thermostat housing on the timing chain cover.
- 4). Install the new thermostat, spring down toward the block, into the recess in the timing chain cover. Lay the thermostat housing, gasket installed, over the thermostat. Center the bolt holes and insert the bolts. It is extremely important to make sure that the thermostat housing fits perfectly into its recess in the timing cover before the bolts are tightened. It is easy to crack the timing chain cover if misaligned. Tighten the bolts evenly.
- 5). Push the lower radiator hose on the thermostat housing and install the constant tension clamp using the tool for this purpose. Install the lower splash shield and close the radiator petcock. Lower the truck and fill the radiator with the captured antifreeze.
