When I started writing articles I had no idea what it was.
After doing a little research I found the answer! SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization.
Digging deeper I to understand more I realized that SEO is the process of improving the ranking of websites with search engines.
Look at it this way.
When you are searching for something on the internet the first thing you do is go to a search engine and enter the 'keyword' you are looking for.
This could be anything - dog food, mattresses, lingerie, etc or maybe you are looking for information on a particular topic.
The search engine processes your request and displays the results for you.
You go through the sites it shows and satisfy for need.
Now if you look closer at the search engine you will see that it found thousands of results to match your search criteria.
But did you look at all those sites? The answer is no.
Nobody has that much time on their hands and all the other sites that you did not visit lost out.
The order in which sites are displayed is based on a system called PageRank.
A site is ranked according to different criteria like domain age i.
e.
how long the site has been online, the quality of the content on the page, ease in use, the number of links leading to the sites (explained later in the article), etc.
SEO looks at the site solely from the PageRank point of view.
There are various SEO methods that can be used to improve ranking on a search engine.
They are divided into categories - On Page and Off Page.
The On Page SEO deals with the site it's self.
It looks to improve the site so that fits better into the PageRank criteria.
Things like the way photos are placed on the website; the site headers and the content on the site are tweaked or changed.
But there is only so much you can do with the site.
Most of the SEO work is done off page.
Off Page SEO involves elements like blogs, forums, articles and Adsense.
Off Page SEO is also often called backlinking, because of the links created that lead back to the targeted site.
Search engines, especially Google view links leading back to a site as a recommendation for the site.
So the more number of links the better the recommendation and better the ranking gets.
Links are created and posted on blogs and forums and this adds to the links leading back to the site.
Articles work in a similar way.
SEO articles are pieces of informative literature.
They are talk about the products or services the site offers.
These are articles can then be posted on article sites, blogs or AdSense sites.
AdSense sites are webpages that only contain information on a particular topic and links and advertisements.
Links can be added in the body or at the end of the article.
