- 1). Register for the General Lines Property and Casualty Agent examination from the Prometric website or by calling Prometric at (800) 853-5448. The examination number is 14-56. Pay the examination fee, which is $70 as of December 2010, by debit or credit card.
- 2). Go to the Prometric examination site on your scheduled day and bring a government-issued photo identification that has your signature, such as a driver's license or passport. Prometric suggests you arrive 30 minutes early.
- 3). Pass the General Lines Property and Casualty examination by scoring at least 70 percent. The examination contains only multiple-choice questions and you will receive your results immediately upon its completion.
- 4). Have your fingerprints taken by a fingerprint technician located at the examination site. The fees as of December 2010 are $34.25 for the processing of the prints and $9.95 for a Prometric service fee.
- 5). Submit a licensing application to the Texas Department of Insurance. You can either do this online from the department's website or by downloading and submitting it by mail. The license fee if $50 as of December 2010. You will receive your license in the mail after the Texas Department of Insurance approves your application.
