Focus on Legacy
NITIE Mumbai the oldest among above four, was established in 1963 and has consistently been performing well with a good Alumni base. However, the B school is more sought after by core engineering graduates as the focus is more on Engineering and technical areas.
MDI, Gurgaon, established in 1973 is a private management institute which has become a synonym of consistent growth. The B school has grown to be one of the most sought after Management College in India along with IIMs. Its large alumni base is spread all over the world and more and more candidate are turning towards entrepreneurship after completing the PGDM programme.
IIM Indore and IIM Kozhikode both were established in the year 1996. The brand IIM has its own taste and therefore, despite being slightly new candidates who are offered admissions to other institutes usually like to wait for shortlist announcements by these institutes.
The Intake
Number of seats in flagship PGDIM and PGDISEM programmes at NITIE Mumbai are 340. Both the programmes are 2 years residential and are the most sought after ones. Despite so many seats it is difficult to find the admission in this institute and sometimes even 99 CAT percentilers do not get admission to this B school.
MDI Gurgaon having an intake of 335 aspirants is a hot and much sought after destination for management aspirants. It is a versatile institute and sometimes is preferred to a few of IIMs. The admission seekers with 98+ CAT percentile are sometimes disappointed for not being able to secure admission in this B school.
IIM Kozhikode has an intake of 360 seats in its 2 years' residential PGP programme. With a consistent increase in seats the flagship programme at IIM K is a preferred one.
IIM Indore is a hot destination IIM after IIM A, B, C. It has maximum intake among all the above four B schools with 470 candidates across the PGPM programmes. Candidates, if admitted in this B school do not prefer going to any other B school.
Fee structure
This is the most important area now to be considered before proceeding to secure admission in any of the above 4 b schools. The factor becomes all the more important as you have to take the decision before May 5, 2014 else MDI Gurgaon and NITIE may close the gates and your candidature is at risk.
NITIE has probably the lowest fee structure among all the above 4 B schools. They are asking a fee of Rs. 4.19 lakhs to be deposited by means of single demand draft latest by May 5, 2014. The total fee may be slightly more but not much more. If you are an engineer and wish to go to NITIE, the advisory is not to wait too long and proceed with your admission plans.
MDI has announced its fee for 2014-16 as Rs. 14.91 lakhs. This B school will accept fee in installments but candidates have to deposit Rs. 75,000/- in May 2014 towards admission fee else their candidature may be cancelled.
IIM Kozhikode and IIM Indore although have not announced their final merit lists for admission 2014-16 batch, their fee structure is may not give any reprieve to this expensive management programme. While you will have to shell out about Rs. 10 lakhs for IIMK, the hole in your pocket will be bigger with Rs. 13 lakhs for IIM Indore.
It is up to you to either wait for the final merit lists from these two IIMs or proceed with NITIE or MDI
