Oracle provides many types of software widely used in business. The popular Oracle E-Business Suite includes Oracle CRM, Financials, HRMS, Mobile Supply Chain, Applications, Order Management, Procurement, Project Portfolio Management, Quotes, Transportation Management, Warehouse Management Systems, Inventory and Enterprise Asset Management. Other Oracle applications include PeopleSoft Enterprise, Siebel, JD Edwards EnterpriseOne and JD Edwards World. With so many different software systems, businesses may want to provide customized internal training on Oracle applications for employees. - Choose which Oracle applications for which you want to offer internal training and create a ranked list of their importance based on your business (e.g. 1. CRM, 2. Order Management, 3. Procurement, 4. Quotes, etc.). Use this list to choose which Oracle applications to offer first for employee internal training.
- Create a team of subject matter experts (SMEs) to offer guidance and look over your training materials for each Oracle application in which you plan to offer internal training. Depending on the expertise available to you, the SMEs could be experienced users of the application or outside consultants. If no experienced resources are available, the creator of the training often becomes a subject matter expert by going through the process of creating the training materials.
- Put together a training development project team to develop the training course and materials for each Oracle application. Ideally a team will consist of a group of trainers to offer the finished course, course designers to create the course materials with SME assistance and a project manager or team lead to oversee the specific training development for each Oracle application.
- Send the project development team to a pre-existing training, such as Oracle University in-person or online applications training so they learn the software, become additional resources as subject matter experts and develop meaningful training activities and answer employee questions once the internal training has been offered. If the budget is small, consider asking the team to use self-study CD-ROMs and free online training to learn about each application.
- Develop the internal training course and materials with the project development team starting with the first (and most important) Oracle application from your ranked list. Training materials could include an outline for the course, a course guide for instructors, a course guide for employees attending the training, training materials such as handouts or PowerPoint presentation slides and any evaluation materials such as quizzes or tests to check for learning.
- Conduct a pilot test of the first training course with a small group of employees. Make changes based on this "dry run" and ask for feedback from the employees who are part of the pilot course. Be specific in finding out what was helpful about the training and what was confusing or needs to be improved.
- Offer training for all employees for the first Oracle application on your list. Be sure to solicit feedback from the audience about what kind of changes they would like to see so you can apply your experience to developing the next Oracle application training on your ranked list.
