Games for Kids Ages Five to Seven

    • Children ages five to seven are preparing for school or just getting used to the way school operates. There are games available that will help teach your child necessary skills for school, such as reading or following directions. Many of the games for this age group are not only fun but are also learning opportunities.

    Memory

    • Memory is a board game made by Hasbro for children age three and older and can be played with one or more players. The game has cards with matching pictures. The game begins with the cards being shuffled and placed face down in rows. The player turns over two cards in the hopes of finding a matching pair of pictures. If you find a match, you can keep going until you miss. The winner is the person at the end of the game that has the most matches. This game introduces the very important skill of memorization. Children will have to memorize where the pictures are located in order to get matches and it will also help them to recognize and identify pictures with words, which will help with reading.

    Chutes and Ladders

    • Chutes and Ladders is another board game made by Hasbro. This game is designed for children ages three to six years old and for two to four players. The game is very easy to play. The board is numbered from one to a hundred with chutes and ladders spread out strategically across the board. Each players begins on the “start” space and spins the number wheel to determine how many spaces they will move. If they land on a space with a ladder, they can skip spaces. However, sometimes the space has a chute where they have to slide down and lose headway. The winner is the first person to make it the “100” space. The game is very important in helping children with number recognition and counting skills.

    Uno

    • Uno is a card game for all ages created by Brybelly designed for children seven years and older. The game was created for two to four players. Each player is dealt seven cards. The remainder of the cards are put face down and is considered the "draw" pile. The top card from the draw pile is turned face up and placed next to draw pile, creating a "discard" pile. Written on the cards are numbers, colors and directions, such as skip or draw four cards. The player must place a card on top of the "discard" pile that matches the card by color, number or direction. If the player does not have a match, they can draw from the "draw" pile until they find a match. The object of the game is to be the first person to get rid of all of your cards by matching color, number or direction. This is a fast-paced, exciting game that will teach children ages five to seven color and number recognition, along with the very important skill of being able to follow directions.
