Do it Yourself: Cosmetics & Containers

    Shoe Rack

    • Invest in a shoe rack. They are a great way to organize your cosmetic containers. The type that works best for this is the canvas type that hangs over the door, with plastic or canvas pockets for each shoe. However, instead of putting shoes in the pockets, place brushes, eye shadows, nail polish, hair spray bottles, deodorants, and any other cosmetics you have into them. If the pockets are clear, and you don't want their contents to show through, simply use fabric glue or super glue to attach fabric to the inside of each pocket to match the theme of your bathroom. Most discount department stores carry these types of shoe racks.

    Tackle or Tool Box

    • Break out the tackle boxes and toolboxes. They are great for organizing cosmetic containers. Simply place small items in the upper trays and larger bottles and containers in the bottom, open area. If you want to make your new "cosmetic" holder more visually appealing, use a glue gun to attach flowers, gems and other decorations; or use spray paint to change the color completely. Some stores sale them in colors other than metal. Check out LadiesToolsOnline.com to see their "Think Pink Tool Box."

    Plastic Drawer Organizer

    • Another great DIY home organization idea is to use plastic drawer sets to store your cosmetics. You can find these types of products at most discount department stores. These storage drawers come in a variety of colors and sizes. Use the mini drawer sets for makeup, jewelry and small jars. You can use larger units for hair products, larger jars and containers and brushes. To make the units more appealing to the eye, cover the top of the drawer set with a matching cloth and place candles, a decorative bowl, vase or a picture on top.
