Tim Tebow: Keeping His Options Open

I just had to share this new reading piece that gave me a lot of insight today.
Yahoo Sports news article written by Anwar Richardson report that Tim Tebow, former NFL quarterback, is considering a career to college broadcasting now that he has not been able to land an NFL job since his release from the New England Patriots prior to this season.
Although his article goes on to discuss Tebow's struggles during his NFL career and whether he has what it takes to be successful, the purpose of this article is not to discuss or judge whether Tebow is qualified or capable of succeeding in a career as a college broadcaster but to highlight the simple fact that he is smart enough to accept the fact that what he has done for so long is now no longer working for him.
This is a move to be admired in the workforce.
It is not easy to make a change after doing something for so long but sometimes it is necessary to gather the strength to do so.
We can all learn a few lessons from the humility of Tim Tebow even if it is derived from having no other choice.
I cannot vouch for the planning that he has taken before considering this move but if you, like Tebow, have been pondering a career change; it will be wise for you to reflect on the following steps before leaping into the unknown.
Tebow Inspired Lession # 1: Decide whether it is necessary to make the change Maybe you have worked at your current job for a while and lately you have just not been happy at all.
Perhaps you enjoy what you do but have not been able to meet the expectations of your career or possibly you love your current career and are excelling greatly but it is interfering with other areas of your life that is more important to you such as time with your family and love ones.
It could by chance be caused due to downsizing or a layoff, whichever one it is, it sound like it is time to make a change but you must be sure that this is what you want and what you must do to avoid double minded thinking that can paralyze you with fear.
Tebow Inspired Lesson #2: Do your research A career change can be a daunting task but before barking out into a shaky economy you need to explore all of your options.
Do a self-assessment by evaluate your current skills, education and abilities.
Are they transferable enough that they can fill the gap between your skills and the qualifications required for the prospective profession? For example, if the only think that you have under your belt is good running shoes and the ability to catch or throw a football then you need to definitely consider continuing your education if the new profession doesn't relate.
If you have a degree, decide what you will enjoy doing.
What is the industry in that field like? Do you know people in that field that can become mentors and help you adjust to this change? Have you examined all the possibilities? Lots of questions that need to be answered now and not later if you are serious about your new career move because you want your next career to be controlled by you and not the other way around.
Tebow Inspired Lesson #3: Don't just plan, write it down.
You've decided the career change that you desire to move into so now it is time to place what your heart has put in your head on paper.
Write down the step by step action that you will take to complete this transition.
You can even think of it as creating a road map for your own success.
