James Marshall Hendrix "Jimi Hendrix", born on November 27, 1942 in Seattle, USA, was one of the greatest guitarist and singer of his time.
Named by his father after his deceased brother, Jimi was born in a poor family that didn't have the resources to live a respectable life.
After experiencing serious setbacks in his early childhood which included the divorce of his parents and the early death of his beloved mother.
The great legend bought his first acoustic guitar at the age of fifteen and laid the foundation for a lucrative career.
Like his father he also joined the army for a period of fourteen months, but after experiencing a serious ankle injury he decided to quit army and concentrated all of his efforts towards pursuing a successful career in music.
To start with he joined a band called "The King Kasuals" and played at different anonymous locations during this time.
At this time he was mainly performing for the African-American community, but this experience had a melancholic effect on his flamboyant personality.
After trying his luck at New York, he was hired by Little Richard in Atlanta where he joined the "Royal Company" as a guitarist.
Soon afterwards Jimi made his first appearance on the television on Nashville's Channel 5.
After a brief spell with "The Royal Company", he quit the band due to differences with Richard, and played briefly for "Ike and Tina Turner".
To cut the long story short, he worked with several bands which include Isley Brothers', Curtis Knight and the Squires, Joey Dee and the Starliters, Bobby Taylor and the Vancouvers.
Finally he formed his very own band in collaboration with Randy California called "Spirit".
In 1966, he was recommended to "The Rolling Stones" but was unable to impress them and subsequently he joined forces with Chas Chandler.
Chandler accompanied Jimi Hendrix to London where he signed a contract with ex-Animals manager Michael Jeffery, and later helped him form the well-known band "The Jimi Hendrix Experience".
Chandler also introduced Jimi Hendrix with the acoustic legend Eric Clapton and their friendship was ignited for many years to come.
Jimi's success in the US and UK was phenomenal and resulted in instant fame and fortune for the legendary guitar man.
The first album released by The Experience was "Are you Experienced" in 1967, which was followed by "Axis: Bold As Love" in the same year.
Finally the third blockbuster album "Electric LadyLand" was released two years later but all this success was shortlived as "The Jimi Hendrix Experience" was disbanded.
After some time of turmoil and confusion Jimi decided to form yet another band called "The Gypsy Sun and Rainbows".
But this effort never really brought any substantial success to the once revered Jimi Hendrix.
Alas! After an illustrious and glorious career the great artist lost the battle for life on the 18th of September, 1970, under rather mysterious circumstances in a party where reportedly he took an overdose of sleeping pills.
He was known for dashing style and mesmerizing personality, which resembled the great vocalist and song-writer of his time Bob Dylan.
Like many pop artists his life was also affected with the use of drugs.
This great artist was also a great human being and remains in the hearts of millions of people around the globe.
He revolutionlized the music industry and inspired many generations of pop stars.
